How long is this course?

This course comprises:

a) 16 hours – asynchronous instruction

Asynchronous sessions are composed of:

  • One video of up to 30 minutes delivered every week (see program below);
  • One asynchronous task to be completed before the next face-to-face meeting.

 

b) 4 hours – face-to-face instruction

  • 4 (four) 60-minute live meetings aiming at offering participants a chance to practice concepts and language seen in the recordings, solve doubts related to the assignments, and receive feedback

  • This course offers English teachers an in-depth exploration of Phonology of the English language, providing them with the knowledge and tools to effectively teach pronunciation. By covering topics such as individual sounds, word stress, intonation, and connected speech, this course also aims to develop the teacher's own phonological awareness and equip them with practical tools for the classroom.

    Session 6: Syllables and Word Stress

  • Module 3: Intonation (September 1st-September 15th, 2025)

    Session 9: Sentence Stress & Rhythm 

    Session 10: Intonation

    Session 11: Intonation (II)

    • Live Meeting: September 26th, 2025 – 19h00 to 20h00 (Brasília time)

  • Module 4: Connected Speech (October 1st-29th, 2025)

    Session 12: Connected Speech: Weak Forms

    Session 13: Connected Speech (II): Elision 

    Session 14: Connected Speech (III): Assimilation & Catenation 

    Session 15: Connected Speech (IV): Intrusion & Delayed Plosion 

    Session 16: Connected Speech (V): Implications for Students

    • Live Meeting: October 31st, 2025 – 16h00 to 17h00 (Brasília time)

Course Investment for 2025:

Technical Requirements

Every course participant must have: 

  • A desktop or laptop computer connected to a high-speed internet connection, equipped with a camera and microphone;
  • A Gmail account is required to have access to Google Classroom;
  • 3G and 4G connections, as well as the use of phones and tablets are not recommended.

Additional Information

Course Tutor

Rodrigo Sigoli has been in ELT since 2006, as an English teacher, Teacher Educator, Conference Speaker, Director of Studies and Cambridge English tutor.

He is a TOEFL and TOEIC certified exam administrator and has also been a Cambridge English Speaking Examiner since 2012 for levels Pre-A1 to C2. 

Besides his degree in Languages, he has been awarded multiple certifications by Cambridge English: the C2 Proficiency (2011), the BULATS (2012), the CELTA (2013), as well as Train the Trainer (2019) and the CertPT by Trinity College London (2023).
